KOTH Privacy Policy

KOTH is a location-based outdoor game for finding summits, planting flags, and competing for crowns. This policy explains what information KOTH collects, how it is used, and the controls available to you.

Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign in with Apple, Google, or a KOTH review account, KOTH receives information needed to create and maintain your account, such as your user identifier, display name, sign-in provider, and email address when the provider makes it available. We store profile settings such as your display name, avatar color, profile photo URL, privacy settings, notification preferences, units preference, timezone, and account creation or sync timestamps.

Precise location

KOTH uses precise location to show nearby peaks, calculate distance to summits, and verify that you are close enough to plant a flag. When you plant a flag, KOTH stores the claim location, GPS accuracy, summit distance, and plant timestamps so the claim can be verified and displayed in game history. KOTH does not use location for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps or websites.

Photos and user content

You may choose to upload a profile photo or attach claim photos. KOTH stores uploaded images and related metadata so they can appear on your profile, claims, summit history, and feed. Claim photos are optional.

Gameplay and social activity

KOTH stores game activity such as claims, current crown holders, reign durations, keeper streaks, crown reactions, leaderboards, feed events, friends, friend requests, blocked users, party plants, and privacy visibility choices. This information powers app functionality and may be visible to other users according to the app's privacy controls. KOTH does not upload or scan your device address book.

Push notifications

If you allow notifications, KOTH stores push notification tokens and preferences so it can send account, friend, crown, keeper, and reign milestone notifications.

Diagnostics and analytics

KOTH uses Firebase and related Google services to operate authentication, storage, database, messaging, and app analytics. These services may process device identifiers, app instance identifiers, crash or diagnostic information, performance data, and usage events to keep the app working, improve reliability, and understand product usage.

How We Use Information

We use information for app functionality, account management, summit verification, gameplay history, social features, notifications, safety, fraud prevention, analytics, debugging, and customer support.

Sharing

KOTH uses service providers such as Firebase, Google Sign-In, Apple Sign In, Apple Push Notification service, and cloud hosting/storage providers to operate the app. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies for advertising.

Your Controls

You can manage location permission, photos permission, notifications, profile visibility, feed visibility, friend requests, blocked users, and account deletion from iOS or inside KOTH. You can delete your account in the app from Settings. Account deletion removes account access, private settings, relationships, notification records, and uploaded storage where possible; public gameplay history may remain in limited or anonymized form as "Former Climber" so summit history and leaderboards continue to make sense.

Retention

We keep account, gameplay, and support information as long as needed to provide KOTH, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and maintain the integrity of game history. Uploaded photos, private account records, and account-specific records are deleted or anonymized during account deletion where supported by the app's backend.

Children

KOTH is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information to KOTH, contact us and we will review the request.

Changes

We may update this policy as KOTH changes. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and provide notice when appropriate.
